Even if you are a regular lottery player, you just never know when good luck will strike. When a lucky Illinois mom got up in the middle of the night to see to her crying baby, she did not expect that she’d also find out that she had won a $1.4 million Lucky Day Lotto jackpot.

In an interview with the Illinois Lottery, the mother said,

“My baby woke up crying, and after tucking them back into bed, I had trouble falling back asleep. So, to pass the time, I opened the lottery app on my phone, and I couldn’t believe it when it showed that I had just won $1.4 million!”

The winner, now nicknamed “Lucky Mom,” matched all five numbers in the March 6 Lucky Day Lotto evening drawing. The winning numbers were 6, 8, 16, 17, and 20.

Lucky Mom said that she has occasionally played Lucky Day Lotto before, and when she does, she usually uses her children’s birthdays as her numbers. She added, “I have the best job in the world: I’m a stay-at-home mom, and I already feel very lucky and blessed for where I’m at in life – but today, the word ‘lucky’ took on a whole new meaning.”

How to play Lucky Day Lotto

Lucky Day Lotto is a twice-daily drawing game that is unique to Illinois. You can purchase tickets from your local lottery retailer or with your Illinois Lottery app. Lucky Day Lottery costs $1. To play, you must pick five numbers between 1 and 45 or select Quick Pick, and the computer will randomly generate your numbers. Next, select your purchase type and time of draw. Then, purchase your ticket. Drawings are held each day at 12.40 p.m. and 9.22 p.m. CT.

You could be a winner if any of your numbers match. Here are the Lucky Day Lotto prizes:

  • Match 5: You win the jackpot
  • Match 4: You win $200
  • Match 3: You win $15
  • Match 2: You win $1

You could also win if you played Lucky Day Lotto with EZ Match and you match any EZ Match number to the winning numbers. The EZ Match prize range is $2, $5, $10, $50, $100, $1,000, and $5,000.

How the lottery helps Illinois

The Illinois Lottery was launched in 1974. Since that time, it has contributed more than $24 billion to the Prairie State’s primary benefactor, the Common School Fund, which supports K-12 public education.

Enjoy playing the Illinois Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
