Don't declare independence from your numbers — July 4 draws are on

Drawings won't take the day off, but your prize claim may have to wait until after the parade.

As Americans prepare to celebrate Independence Day with backyard barbecues, fireworks, and long-weekend road trips, lottery fans are wondering if their favorite draw games will be held on July 4. We take a look at your holiday weekend lottery schedule right here.

Will lottery drawings be held on the Fourth of July?

While some states shut down lottery games for Christmas Day, it looks like all state lottery games will be going on as scheduled this July 4. Your multi-state games, like Mega Millions and Lucky for Life, will also be holding their regularly scheduled drawings on Friday night.

Keep in mind that most state lottery offices will be closed for the holiday. That means if you happen to get a big winner over the holiday weekend, you will have to wait until Monday, July 7, 2025, to collect your prize.

Jackpot watch: Still plenty to play for

Since everything will be moving forward as expected, despite the holiday weekend, there are plenty of games and big jackpots to try for this weekend. These games are:

  • Powerball – The multi-state draw game will be held on Saturday, July 5, and the jackpot currently stands at an estimated $190 million.
  • Mega Millions – This multi-state draw game will be held on July 4, and the current jackpot stands at $60 million after one lucky ticket won the $348 million jackpot last Friday.
  • Lotto Texas – The in-state Texas draw game will be held on Saturday, July 5, and the jackpot currently stands at $33.5 million.
  • SuperLotto Plus – California's in-state draw game has climbed to $22 million for its next drawing, which will also be held on Saturday, July 5.
  • New York LOTTO – The in-state New York draw game has climbed to $15.3 million for its next drawing, which will be held on Saturday, July 5. The last jackpot win for LOTTO was on January 8, 2025, when one lucky ticket matched all the winning numbers to take home the $3 million jackpot.
  • Florida Lotto – This in-state draw game has made its way up to $13.25 million for Florida Lottery players. The next drawing will be held on Saturday, July 5.

Best games to play this holiday weekend

Want to make some fireworks of your own? Well, we are sharing some recommendations for lottery games that are the perfect fit for your July 4 holiday:

  • Multi-state draw games – Besides the big jackpots mentioned above for Mega Millions and Powerball, you also have other multi-state draw games to check out, like Cash4Life or Lucky for Life. How about winning $1,000 a day for the rest of your life this holiday weekend?
  • Scratch-off tickets – Many people hit the road for the holiday weekend. A perfect way to pass some time while on the road is scratching an instant ticket. And if you are traveling to different states, this is a great time to try your luck playing another state's lottery tickets.
  • Cash Pop – Not all states offer this, but this newer game lets you pick just one number for a chance to win up to $2,500. This game draws multiple times per day, so plenty of time to get into the action.

While most people are taking the holiday weekend off, there is no rest for the lottery. The drawings will be held as normal, so why not try your luck and make some big fireworks of your own?

Enjoy playing the lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
