If you buy your New Jersey Lottery tickets in Somerset County, you better pull out those recent tickets and check for a big winner!

The jackpot-winning ticket

The New Jersey Lottery announced one lucky ticket matched all five numbers for the Monday, April 22, drawing for Jersey Cash 5. For matching all five numbers, the lucky ticket holder won $197,163.

For the April 22 drawing, the winning numbers were 16, 26, 33, 40, and 42, and the XTRA number was 3.

The winning ticket was sold at Bernardsville Shop Rite, located at 93 Morristown Rd. in Bernardsville in Somerset County. For selling the winning ticket, the lottery retailer will receive a bonus check of $2,000.

In a statement, New Jersey Lottery Executive Director James Carey said:

Congratulations to our very fortunate Jersey Cash 5 winner! We hope this incredible prize brings joy and happiness to the winner; we're already looking forward to awarding another jackpot prize!

How to play Jersey Cash 5

Jersey Cash 5 is a daily draw game from the New Jersey Lottery. The drawings take place every night at 10:57 p.m. ET.

Each ticket costs $1. Players will select five numbers between 1 and 45. If you don't want to pick your own numbers, you can also choose the Quick Pick option. This allows the lottery computer to randomly pick the numbers for you.

For Jersey Cash 5, players can also choose the XTRA option. This will cost players an additional $1 per play per draw. What does the XTRA option do? This will increase any non-jackpot Jersey Cash 5 prizes you may win.

If you happen to match three or more of the numbers drawn, excluding the jackpot, then your prize would be multiplied by the XTRA Multiplier. With the XTRA option, you can also win $2 for only matching two of the numbers drawn.

Another option for Jersey Cash 5 players is adding on the Instant Match option for $1 extra per play. This gives players the chance to win up to $500 instantly.

For Jersey Cash 5, the jackpots start at $100,000 and roll over until someone wins it.

Giving dreams a chance since 1970

Anything can happen in New Jersey, and with the state lottery, it's true! The lottery kicked things off in 1970 after voters approved the lottery in 1969. The first lottery ticket was actually sold on December 16, 1970, to the governor at the time, William T. Cahill.

Since 1970, there has been a total of $42 billion in prizes awarded and a contribution of over $28 billion to the state.

Funding the future of the state

A major source of funding for the state comes from the New Jersey Lottery. For the fifth year in a row, the lottery generated over $1 billion last year. How does that money help the state? See a breakdown here:

  • Investing in the state - Over $32 billion has been contributed to the state overall. This includes funding vital programs and infrastructure projects that benefit everyone in the state.
  • Stronger pensions - With the funds from the lottery, they help bolster the state pension fund. This helps support a secure retirement for teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other public employees who dedicate their lives to the communities of the state.

Enjoy playing the New Jersey Lottery, and please remember to play responsibly.
