The Iowa Lottery's slogan is 'It's your dream… anything can happen!' And they're not lying either, as many IA Lottery players have found out. Iowa Powerball has been a particularly successful lottery game for Iowans with Jacquelyn Moore and Hugh Hawkins won $7,918,154 and $54,779,833 respectively.
However, those two wins pale in comparison to the windfall received by Tim and Kellie Guderian. The couple, from Fort Dodge, won an incredible $200,800,000 on September 23, 2006, thanks to holding all of the winning numbers for Powerball. The Guderians' huge jackpot prize was the 89th win from an Iowa Lottery ticket that was worth more than $1 million.
Those looking to emulate the success of the Guderians can buy their Iowa Powerball tickets from any one of 2,500 retail locations in the state or go online. But Powerball tickets aren't the only ones available in the Hawkeye State. As well as the bigger multi-state lotteries of Mega Millions and Hot Lotto there are also a variety of single-state Iowa Lottery games on offer. These are Pick 3, Pick 4, Midday 3, Midday 4 and the Iowa Cash Game offering a $100,000 jackpot that has been present ever since 1992.
While all of these lotteries are popular, Iowa Powerball is by far the most popular having sold more than $60,000,000 while Hot Lotto has sold almost $15,000,000 and Cash Game $4,000,000. Iowa Lottery tickets are also popular all over the state, but the top two most popular retailers in terms of sales are both based in Cedar Rapids. They are both Hy-Vee stores and have respectively sold $977,297 and $844,080 worth of tickets in 2010.
2010 was a particularly successful year for the IA Lottery as sales reached $256 million, the highest amount since the lottery's first year in 1985.
