About the North Carolina Lottery

North Carolina was the only state on the East Coast without a lottery until August 31, 2005, when the North Carolina State Lottery Act was signed into law. As part of the creation of the NC lottery, it was agreed that approximately 35% of income from the lotto games would be donated to the state's education system. In recognition of this, the lottery was named the 'North Carolina Education Lottery' (NCEL).

The North Carolina lottery enjoyed a successful first few years after the first lottery tickets went on sale on March 30, 2006, with total sales passing $1 billion on May 12, 2007. From July, 2009 to June, 2010 the incredible figure of $400 million was raised for North Carolina's schools all from lottery ticket and scratch card sales.

The North Carolina lottery offers Midday 3, Pick 3, Midday Pick 4 , Pick 4 and Cash 5, as well as their latest game, All or Nothing. Also offered in the state are the Mega Millions and Powerball national lottery games, which offer players with winning numbers huge multi-million dollar jackpots. The North Carolina Powerball is especially popular and has been available in the state since May 30, 2006. The game is drawn on Wednesday and Saturday nights and has a jackpot of at least $40 million. These and all of the other NC lottery results can be found here, along with the option to purchase Powerball and Mega Millions tickets.

To play NC's most popular game, the North Carolina Education Lottery Cash 5, simply select five numbers from 1 to 39 or make use of the quick pick option. Drawings take place at 11:22 p.m. every day and a full selection of winning numbers will land you the top prize of at least $50,000. When playing the Carolina Cash 5, you can play up to 28 drawings from just one ticket, as well as being able to play up to five different sets of numbers to give you more chances to win big.

In addition to the lottery, NCEL also offer players a chance to win entry in to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. One of the 2009 entrants, Richard Taylor of Raeford, was so successful after winning his place in the tournament that he was invited back for the 2010 competition and finished in 443rd place out of 7,319. An impressive achievement, which won him more than $30,000!
